Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a Brazilian, partial Brazilian, and regular bikini wax?

At Brazil Appeal Waxing™, a full Brazilian wax removes all the hair in back and front. A partial Brazilian removes all the hair in the back, but leaves a "landing strip" of hair in the front or a small triangle. A regular bikini wax (also called a granny wax) only removes the hair that would normally poke out when wearing a regular-cut swimsuit.

I've never had a Brazilian wax before. What can I expect?

If you're a new client, you will be given a one-page consultation sheet to fill out when you arrive which will tell your waxing specialist if it is safe for you to receive the treatment. After you fill out your consultation sheet, your waxing specialist will go over your consultation sheet with you in the treatment room.

If there are no contraindications (i.e. medical conditions or medications that would prevent you from safely receiving the service), your waxing specialist will then explain to you in detail what will be involved in your service.

You will be instructed to remove your clothes from the waist down (for a Brazilian wax) and your waxing specialist will leave the room to give you privacy to undress. A white "modesty towel" will be left for you on your dressed treatment table to be placed over your private area while waiting for your waxing specialist to re-enter the room. When your waxing specialist returns she will begin your treatment. If it's your first visit, she will explain what she is doing throughout the treatment to calm any nerves you may have. New clients have told us that although they feel only slight to no discomfort, keeping an open dialogue also helped to calm their nerves. Following the service, new clients will be given a post-wax sheet to take home.

Following my first Brazilian wax how often will I need to come back?

That depends on how fast your hair grows and hair growth is determined by many factors. Many waxing establishments tell their clients to come back every 3 weeks. However, at Brazil Appeal Waxing™ we advise our female clients to monitor their hair growth after their first Brazilian wax with us and when it reaches close to 1/2" or longer, then it's time for another wax. This can take anywhere from 4 - 8 weeks for most women. Keep in mind that although we are able to wax you when your hair growth is just 1/4" long, it will cause you more discomfort at this length because the hair needs to be long enough for the wax to shrink wrap around it in order to be pulled out easily and successfully.

How much time does it take for you to do a women's Brazilian wax?

It depends on the client's hair growth. Typically your service will take 30 - 60 minutes. Your first visit will be approximately 1 hour due to your consultation and because we typically go slower on your first visit as we are explaining our technique to you.

Most of the Brazilian waxes I've had usually took 10 - 15 minutes and were extremely painful. Since yours are 30 - 60 minutes, does this mean I have to endure up to 60 minutes of pain?

Absolutely not! Please click on our "5 Reasons Brazilians Hurt" page to discover why your past Brazilian waxing experiences involved unnecessary pain. At Brazil Appeal Waxing™ your experience will be completely different than what you are used to. We do not offer fast, assembly-line Brazilian waxing services where we get you in and out in 10 minutes while you suffer needlessly. We take our time to do it right and give you a proper and virtually painless Brazilian waxing treatment. Your comfort and safety is our #1 priority and not how many clients we can squeeze into a 1-hour time slot to make more money. That's why we only accept a few clients per day.

Why do you charge more for your Brazilian waxes when most places charge anywhere from $45.00 to $65.00?

Good question. Our Brazilian waxing prices may initially seem high as compared to other waxing establishments, however, most of these places offer rushed and painful assembly-line waxing services which allocate 10 minutes for your Brazilian waxing. They also try to have you come back every 3 weeks to get re-waxed. What you're paying for at Brazil Appeal Waxing™ is a personalized waxing service, more time given to your service (30 - 60 opposed to 10 minutes), a higher quality and more effective wax system, and a waxing specialist with over 23 years of professional Brazilian waxing experience who can give you a virtually painless Brazilian wax every 4 - 8 weeks...instead of every 3 weeks in an impeccably clean treatment room using waxing pots that are not contaminated. Plus, all new Brazilian waxing clients get $10.00 OFF! of their 1st Brazilian waxing!

Do you use a numbing cream or do I even need one?

Our virtually painless method does not require any application of numbing creams nor do we have to liquor you up beforehand. Ditto with any unused Vicodin or other pain meds you have at home. That being said, we do recognize that not everyone's pain tolerance is the same so we do have a topical 5% Lidocaine serum or spray that we can apply 10 minutes before your service for an additional $18 and we also retail the numbing serum/spray.

Will I be all red down there after my Brazilian wax?

Erythema (redness) varies from person-to-person. With our method, you may have some slight reddening during the treatment, however, most of the redness will be gone within a few hours...not days.

I just shaved my bikini area, how long will I have to wait to get waxed?

Hair growth varies from person-to-person, however, most women post-shave need to wait a minimum of 3 - 4 weeks before the hair is long enough to be successfully waxed.

How should I prepare for my Brazilian wax?

If you get your Brazilian wax from us, you don't need to mentally prepare yourself or even have a drink beforehand because it's not going to be painful. However, we cannot necessarily say the same about other waxing establishments. Other than that, we do appreciate if you shower before you arrive or if you're coming straight from work, please shower that morning. We also supply baby wipes for you to freshen up with (on request) before your service begins. Although we will prep your bikini area and remove surface bacteria before your treatment, it's makes the session much more pleasant for you and your waxing specialist when you arrive 'fresh & clean'.

Do I need to trim my hair down there before I arrive?

No. We'll take care of that for you in our treatment room. In fact, we advise you not to trim or cut the hair because you may risk trimming it too short for waxing.

I'm on my period. Can I still come in for a Brazilian wax?

Yes. However, you need to be aware that some women are more sensitive down south several days before and during their flow and may experience a bit more discomfort than normal when getting their bikini area waxed. On the other hand, other women aren't as sensitized during this time and are fine with receiving their Brazilian wax. If you know that this service causes you more discomfort just prior to menstruation then we advise you to wait a week after your period ends and then come in for your Brazilian waxing service. Another question women want to know is if they can get their bikini waxed while wearing a tampon. Yes. Wearing a tampon will not interfere with your Brazilian wax service. Brazil Appeal Waxing™ offers complimentary tampons just in case you forget or run out.

I'm 8 months pregnant, is it too late for me to get a Brazilian wax before I give birth?

Absolutely not. Pre-natal Brazilian waxing is very popular at Brazil Appeal Waxing.™ We can even provide this service up to 1 - 2 weeks before your due date. Extra pillows will be provided on the treatment table for your comfort.

Do you supply disposable panties for a partial Brazilian wax?

At Brazil Appeal Waxing™ our Brazilian waxes are done in the most professional and sanitary manner. For those age 18 and over, we prefer to do this treatment sans panties because we find them to be a bit of hindrance when performing a Brazilian waxing service. However, for ages 14 - 17 we will supply disposable panties on request. Our goal is to make all of our clients comfortable and happy. Please note that with all of our Brazilian waxing services, our waxing specialist is always gloved up for your protection and peace-of-mind. As soon as your treatment is complete, a modesty towel will be placed over the area just worked on and, after a brief post-treatment consultation, your waxing specialist will step out of the room so that you can re-dress.

What are the advantages of having regular Brazilian waxes?

You look, feel, and smell oh so fresh and clean. You have more confidence and feel downright sexy or as Shania Twain says, "Man, I feel like a woman!"

b    Assuming you shower daily (and we know you do...probably twice a day!) you won't have to worry as much about vaginal odors because there's no more hair for the vaginal secretions (and urine) to cling onto which allow bacteria to grow and multiply resulting in an unpleasant smell. The same goes when you're menstruating. When you're bare down there, the blood can't get matted in your hair which produces quite an unpleasant odor. With no hair down there, you just need to wear a panty liner now that you're all clean and bare.

b    No more irritation, redness, and numerous ingrown hairs from shaving down there.

b    No more chafing (especially for runners).

b    No more worry about any embarrassing Sex and the City Miranda moments where unsightly pubic hair is peeking out of your swimsuit.

b    Your sexual experience with your partner will be enhanced.

Are there any disadvantages?

Other than it being painful at other waxing places, we can't think of any.

Any restrictions I need to know about following my Brazilian wax?

Yes. See below.

Although you may shower several hours following your Brazilian wax, we advise you not use perfumed or scented soaps, gels, cleansers, or scented lotions in that area for 24 hrs. Also, do not use any body scrubs or loofahs in that area for at least 3 days. We also recommend using a shower instead of a bathtub to bathe...for at least 24 hrs.

It is recommended you abstain from sex for at least 6 hours following your Brazilian wax. However, if you feel the need for some lovin', make sure your partner is clean-shaven prior to...well, you know.

Steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, pools, lakes, oceans, rivers, or any body of water other than your shower needs to be avoided for at least 2 days following your Brazilian wax.

Avoid exercising (including yoga) for at least 24 hours following your Brazilian wax. If you do spinning classes, wait 48 hrs. following your Brazilian.

Do not use a tanning salon for a least 7 days following your Brazilian wax. In fact, do yourself and your skin a favor and avoid tanning salons altogether. Tanning booths pre-maturely age you and increase your chances of getting skin cancer. Is having a darker skin tone really worth looking like a Sharpei and getting painful treatments for cancer...not to mention risking disfigurement when the doctors have to cut out the cancer from your nose, ear, or cheek or worse risking your life for? Do what the celebrities do and get a spray tan...just wait a minimum of 24 hours following your Brazilian wax.

No sunbathing for at least 2 days following your Brazilian wax. If you sun-bathe au naturel, then make it 3 days following your Brazilian wax and wear lots of physical sunblock on that area (physical sunblocks contain Zinc Oxide and/or Titanium Dioxide). The best sunblocks contain both. We advise not using chemical sunblocks in this area because they may be too irritating. (Chemical sunblocks are those that don't contain zinc or titanium dioxide).

Is there anyone who shouldn't get a Brazilian wax or any other waxing services?

Yes. Waxing is contra-indicated (meaning that certain medical conditions or medications you take may prevent you from safely receiving the service) if you have any of the following listed below. Brazil Appeal Waxing™ will not be able to service you unless and until your condition(s) has cleared up and has been successfully treated by a physician.

Waxing is contra-indicated (unsafe) if you have any of the following:

If you have a sexually transmitted disease that you have not yet been treated for.

If you have active genital herpes (those with a sore or sores in, around, and on

the vaginal area).

If you have pubic lice (crabs) or head lice.

If you have scabies.

If you have ringworm.

If you have shingles.

If you have a yeast infection.

If you have impetigo.

If you have boils in the area you want waxed (i.e buttocks area).

If you have conjunctivitis.

If you've had any recent surgeries and want to be waxed over the scar tissue or if you have had liposuction/liposculpture within the past 3 months and want to be waxed in that area. (Scar tissue takes approximately 8 months to fully heal).

If you are currently taking the acne drug Accutane® or have stopped taking it less than 12 months. All waxing is contra-indicated (unsafe) for Accutane®.

If you are currently using the topical acne cream Differin® and want facial waxing.

If you are currently using topical retinoid creams such as Retin-A® or Renova® and want facial waxing. (You must discontinue use for at least 3 weeks).

If you have had a recent chemical peel (within the last 30 days) and want facial waxing.

If you are sunburned in the area you want waxed.

If you have ropey varicose veins on your legs and want leg waxing.

If you have extremely fragile, thin or crepey skin.

If you are diabetic or taking blood thinning medication you may or may not be able to receive a waxing treatment. If you are diabetic or taking any blood thinning medication, you will need to sign a consent form and then a small patch test will be done to see if you are able to safely receive a Brazilian or any other type of waxing.

If you've had a self-tan application in the last 7 days. Since self-tanning color is temporary, waxing will most likely remove some of your self-tan color. This may also happen with a natural tan.

Brazil Appeal Waxing™ does not offer Brazilian waxes for ages 13 and under. Brazil Appeal Waxing™ does not provide face or body waxing services for anyone under the age of 12. For those ages 12 - 17 wanting to receive waxing services, you must be accompanied by your parent or legal guardian.

May I bring my child(ren) with me?

Unfortunately there are no facilities or staff available to watch your child while you receive a treatment. Also, we do not allow children in the treatment room due to liability and safety concerns. Thank you for your understanding.
